The start of Cooking and Gardening

Why I started this. Well, I covered this a little in the About Me section, but I wanted to take the time to explain the point of it. Obviously, I enjoy it and am interested in learning about it but really, it’s because it’s important. I can’t believe the amount of people I talk to who order in most nights. Or worse, watch endless cooking programmes and take photos of their food everywhere they go but have absolutely no idea what they are actually eating. There is a huge disconnection between the popularity and social aspects of food and what people understand about their day-to-day eating.

I wanted to this site to talk to people who have an interest and basic skills but just need some ideas. This is for people who want to engage with their garden and kitchen and don’t need me to teach them the basics or remind them to add salt but do need some help figuring out what they can do with leftover ingredients and how to shop economically.

I work for a large technology company and my schedule varies daily. Sometimes I come home, and I cannot be bothered. I get that. And that’s fine, just not every day. Cooking and gardening are many things or me, hobbies, relaxation, creative outlets and plain necessities. They also provide me with an element of zen time when I’m engrossed in something enough to give myself a mental break from the endless to-do list. I like the idea of having a secret garden, full of vegetables that you won’t find in the shops. They will always taste better.

Meals don’t have to take a lot of time to make, variety can be achieved pretty easily and without waste and it doesn’t have to cost a lot. Gardening isn’t just for one age group and eating vegetables fresh from the garden to the plate changes everything.

That’s all that I want to show.
